Sofia Hutchins was laid to rest in Los Angeles, but her cause of death is still unknown.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, Hutchins’ official cause of death has been deferred. E! News reportedly “reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department and the Medical Examinerâs Office for comment but has not heard back.”
Hutchins tragically passed away after a fatal ATV crash on July 2 in Malibu. TMZ reported that she was pronounced dead at the scene, having been “riding the ATV on the road where Caitlyn (Jenner) lives when she struck the bumper” of a 2016 Mazda. The collision caused the ATV to go over the edge, falling 350 feet into a ravine. The two passengers in the other vehicle were not harmed.
The Enquirer has since reported that the ATV was not street legal.
Police Investigating Speeding as Factor in the Crash
Daily Mail reported that police are investigating speeding as a possible factor in the crash.
âIt looks like she may have been speeding and rear-ended the other car, the other party, and then that caused her to veer to the right and go off the cliff,â Los Angeles County Sheriffâs Department sergeant Eduardo Saucedo said in a July 5 interview with the Daily Mail. âIt doesnât seem like she was following them. I think she just came up on them and then hit the car. It looked like she tried to maneuver to go around it, but she was going too fast and just ended up clipping the rear end of that Mazda, causing her to veer off and go off the cliff there.â
Caitlyn Jenner is Supporting Sophia Hutchins‘ Mom
Caitlyn Jenner and Hutchins were very close, and Jenner is helping her friend’s family after this devastating loss. Photos published by The Daily Mail showed Jenner walking beside Sophiaâs mother in Malibu. And TMZ reports that Jenner invited Amy, who lives out of town, to stay with her in Los Angeles.
Hutchins and Jenner first met in 2015 through hairstylists, and she went on to become the CEO and director of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation.
