Production has been halted as Turner recovers, with sources telling Page Six that she is expected to return to set within two weeks. Crew members are continuing with preparation work during the break.

Grueling Physical Demands Took a Toll

Sources told The U.S. Sun that Turner had a pre-existing back issue that was aggravated by the physically demanding nature of the role.

“Sophie has been throwing herself into the role, but the gruelling physicality of being Lara Croft has meant she has pushed her body too far,” the insider said.

The role involves extensive training and intense action work, which likely contributed to the injury.

Future of the Series Faces Uncertainty

Turner was recently seen filming scenes for the series in the United Kingdom, where production has been underway since January.

Amazon MGM Studios previously released a first look at Turner as Lara Croft, confirming the adaptation of the popular video game franchise was in progress.

The character has been portrayed by Angelina Jolie in “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and Alicia Vikander in “Tomb Raider.”

While sources say producers expect Turner to return soon, some insiders have raised concerns about possible delays.

“It’s been chaos on set, and now the whole show is in jeopardy,” a source told The UK Sun. “Many on set fear Sophie may have to be replaced altogether now, as she may not bounce back in time.”

The series, written and produced by “Fleabag” creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, also stars Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs.

For now, production remains paused as Turner recovers, with the studio indicating filming will resume once she is ready.

Actress Previously Opened Up About Back Struggles

Turner had spoken candidly about the toll the role took on her body during preparation.

Appearing on “The Julia Cunningham Show,” she revealed she discovered a long-term issue while training.

“We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week, since February last year of training, so it’s been a lot,” she said.

She added that gaining strength did not come easily.

“Which I never had,” she said. “So it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape. That’s what I’ve learned.”
