Despite pushback from local protesters over overtourism, the couple forged ahead, reportedly moving the ceremony to the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.
Sources told PEOPLE that guests arrived by boat â about 30 in total â forming a dramatic canal convoy.
Police patrolled the area by jet ski, while an entire waterway was shut down to manage the arrivals. The soon-to-be bride and groom were among the last to appear, shielded by a cordon of security.
