Stephen King’s ‘Carrie’ Is Coming Back to the Screen with a New Cast! 

Stephen King’s “Carrie” is making a haunting return. Yes, this time to the small screen, right in the comfort of our own home. According to The Hollywood Reporter, casting is officially complete for Prime Video’s upcoming series adaptation of King’s classic 1974 novel. Summer Howell has been cast in the iconic role of Carrie White. She’s portrayed the telekinetic teenager whose story has captivated audiences for well over a decade.

The new series is being described by Variety as a “bold and timely reimagining” of the popular horror fan favorite.

The continued, “This modern version centers around Carrie White (Howell), a socially isolated high schooler who has lived in near-total seclusion with her domineering and hyper-religious mother. Her world begins to unravel following the sudden death of her father, forcing Carrie to navigate the harsh realities of public high school. The bullying she faces at school, combined with the emergence of her mysterious telekinetic powers, leads to devastating consequences for her and those around her.”


A Star-Studded Cast and a Horror Icon Behind the Scenes


Joining Summer Howell is a diverse and talented cast that includes several actors who are familiar with the genre. One of these includes Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Carrie’s controlling mother. Also starring Alison Thornton, Siena Goines, Thalia Dudek, Josie Totah, Joel Oulette, and Amber Midthunder. Notably, horror icon and favorite Matthew Lillard, known for his iconic roles in “Scream,” “Dead Man’s Curve,” “Thirteen Ghosts,” “Wicker Park, ” and “Without a Paddle,” will also appear in the series. Lillard’s legacy in the thriller and horror genres has earned him the well-deserved title. He’s been nicknamed the honorary “Scream King.”

The series is helmed by Mike Flanagan. Yes, THAT Mike Flanagan. The visionary horror writer-director behind Netflix hits like “The Haunting of Hill House,” “Midnight Mass,” “The Fall of the House of Usher,” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” Flanagan is no stranger to King’s universe. This after previously directing “Doctor Sleep,” the 2019 sequel to “The Shining.” The film starred Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, and Jacob Tremblay.


A New Adaptation of ‘Carrie’


Flanagan will serve as the showrunner and writer for the “Carrie” series. He will also executive produce alongside Trevor Macy under their Intrepid Pictures banner. Amazon MGM Studios will handle the production, promising high-quality execution and a fresh take on the legendary horror story.

It’s no secret that King’s “Carrie” has been adapted several times before, each having a distinctive flair. Most famously in the 1976 film directed by Brian De Palma, which starred Sissy Spacek as Carrie and Piper Laurie as her mother. With a new generation of actors and the creative force of Flanagan behind the series, fans of the horror genre have every reason to be excited for this chilling retelling of a timeless story.
