Stormzy gave fans in south-west London an unexpected treat this week after his £350,000 luxury car broke down in the middle of Putney High Street.
Rather than get frustrated, the rapper turned the whole ordeal into an impromptu meet-and-greet.
The Grime icon, 31, took to Instagram to document the mishap, filming himself in the driver’s seat as traffic piled up behind him.
In the clips, Stormzy can be seen laughing off the situation while waiting for assistance, visibly stuck in the middle of the busy road.
Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for passers-by to clock who was behind the wheel.
Fans quickly gathered around the stranded star, phones out and grins wide, as the scene turned into a chaotic but good-natured street-side hangout.
In one video, a fan can be heard teasing him, ‘It’s your fault for buying a s*** car!’ — a jibe that drew a big laugh from the Vossi Bop rapper.
Another passer-by asked why he hadn’t just pushed the vehicle himself, to which Stormzy replied, still chuckling, ‘I f***ing couldn’t!’
Leaning into the absurdity, Stormzy quipped to his followers: ‘If you don’t laugh, you’re crying,’ before officially declaring the breakdown a full-blown event.
‘Doing a meet-and-greet on Putney High Road,’ he wrote over one story. ‘Bring a pen if you want me to sign some sh** — I ain’t got no pen.’
In another clip, he jokingly yelled ‘Help!’ at fans walking by, who couldn’t resist laughing and waving back.
After a few more videos of good-natured banter, the rapper eventually shared a shot of a petrol station pump, suggesting he’d managed to refuel and finally get back on his way.
Rounding off the saga, Stormzy posted a grateful selfie and a heartfelt message to everyone who’d stepped in to help.
He wrote: ‘Thank you to my brother @Eskeameroib for saving my life. Thank you to the lovely lady from the Rush Hair Salon who tried to help me. Thanks to all you lovely people who also tried to help.’
Stormzy’s car trouble comes after rumours have recently been swirling around the star’s new romance with singer Victoria Monet, after the pair were spotted kissing.
The pictures came three months after his highly-public split from Love Island host Maya Jama, 30, who had dated each other from 2014 to 2019 and then from 2023 to 2024.
The Putney car incident is not the first time Stormzy’s easy-going charm has won fans over, but this latest episode might be one of his most endearing yet.
