‘The Chris McCausland effect’ is leaving Strictly Come Dancing viewers in tears as one fan shared a heartwarming story about the current series.

In 2024, Strictly Come Dancing introduced audio description as well as live signing and subtitling to make sure the BBC’s most-watched series was more inclusive than ever.

Continuing to break boundaries, this year’s line-up also includes the first ever blind contestant, Chris, who lost his sight aged 22 after a devastating diagnosis.

He’s already blown viewers away proving that even without sight you can be a far better dancer than most of us could ever dream to be.

The impact of Chris and the BBC’s update with audio description is now being felt with one fan on Reddit, who goes by the under name queermarmalade, revealing their blind friend Steve is ‘getting to enjoy Strictly for the first time ever because of the audio descriptions (which he said are amazing) AND he wants to get dance lessons now!’

The post on Reddit titled ‘The Chris effect’ moved other Strictly fans to tears.

‘Wow this made me tear up a little bit! Tell him to go for it!’ replied RasberryLemonLime1.

WittyMasterpiece agreed: ‘That’s amazing! So pleased to hear that. Strictly has shown that it has a power far beyond entertainment.’

‘Wow that is an incredible story, thanks for sharing and tell Steve we’re right behind him and would love to know how he gets on!’ Therailwaykat_1980 cheered.

Chris is now the favourite to list the Glitterball trophy, according to bookies, after two incredible, high-energy, performances with his partner Dianne Buswell.

Diver Tom Dean became the first contestant to be given the boot on Saturday, with the judges choosing to save Toyah Wilcox in the dance-off – which didn’t go down well with viewers.

Tonight, the remaining contestants will take to the stage for Movie Week with the exception of Nick Knowles who has been forced to drop out with his second injury this series.

Strictly Come Dancing returns tonight at 6.25pm on BBC One.
