Taylor Swift was getting ‘a little antsy’ ahead of her engagement to Travis Kelce nearly two weeks ago, the NFL star’s father has since shared.
The American footballer, 35, and the pop superstar, also 35, shared news of their romantic engagement with the world on Tuesday evening in an Instagram post.
The slideshow of snaps showed Travis down on one knee, while the pop star held his face, in a manicured garden in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,’ the newly-engaged couple captioned the joint post on social media. The photos received a million likes in minutes and look set to become the most-liked Instagram post ever.
The Kansas Chiefs footballer’s father Ed Kelce has since shared details on the engagement, including how he knew Travis was set to propose for months and urged him to get on with it.
‘Travis actually did the proposal, maybe two weeks ago, not quite two weeks ago,’ Ed told Cleveland’s ABC News 5. ‘He was going to put it off till this week.’
He continued: ‘I think [Taylor] was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to make some grand thing, to make it a big special event.
‘I told him repeatedly, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.’
Noting he has never seen his son happier, Ed said Taylor’s father Scott Swift was giving Travis the same advice about how to do the proposal.
Explaining further details on the romantic proposal, Ed said: ‘He got her out there, they were about to go to dinner, and he said, “Let’s go out and have a glass of wine…” They got out there and that’s when he asked her. It was beautiful.
‘They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great.’
Travis’s father said the couple have yet to set a date for the wedding.
Taylor and Travis started dating in September 2023, after the Kansas City Chiefs star tried and failed to give a friendship bracelet to the hitmaker during one of her Eras Tour concerts.
Speaking with his brother Jason on their podcast, Travis complained that he had been unable to give the singer his number on a bracelet. Taylor’s team soon heard his cheeky complaint, and soon after, Taylor became a fixture in the stands at Travis’ games.
