After two seasons of making fun of people on the internet with a panel of comedians, Taylor Tomlinson said goodbye to CBSâs âAfter Midnight.â
Last nightâs episode was the final one after a week-long tournament featuring the showâs most popular guests.
A Dream Made
âIâm so grateful that I got a chance to do this,â Tomlinson told the audience during her monologue.
âI never thought I would be able to host a late night show. This was never something that was on my vision board,â she continued.
Tomlinson decided to leave the show due to her want to continue touring as a comedian.
“Iâm a garbage person,” she said in jest. “Iâm a rat road dog comedian.”
âIt was my dream that I would get to finish out the season and hand it off to a new host. I really wanted CBS to replace me,â Tomlinson added.
CBS decided against replacing the host, using the opportunity to end the show completely. The networkâs parent company Paramount is currently in negotiations to merge with Skydance. Cost cutting is hitting the Paramount family so that it can be lean enough to be purchased.Â
Tomlinson argued that the show couldâve been done with another person at the helm. âI just think there are so many amazing comedians who would have done a great job with the show.â
She also noted how much effort was put into the show that lacked a sizeable budget. âThe amount of work that goes into doing a show like this is insane. We did not have the budget of a traditional late-night show,â she said.
She went on to champion the writers, producers, and crew who often held many hats.
What Came Before
âAfter Midnightâ launched in January 2024 as a spinoff of Comedy Centralâs â@midnightâ that was originally hosted by Chris Hardwick.
The shows differed in length and appearance but thatâs about it. The games were nearly the same and the styling including the panelists and pacing were similar.
âLate Showâ host Stephen Colbert executive produced the show. CBS will not be filling the hour with another late night show. Instead, the network will air episodes of Byron Allenâs âComics Unleashed.â
