Owen Cooper, just 15 years old, is already making waves in the TV world. The young British actor won Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Limited Series at the Gotham TV Awards in New York City for his breakout role as Jamie Miller in Netflixâs âAdolescenceâ.
As per a report in Vogue, Cooper beat out around 500 other hopefuls to play the teenage murder suspect. He tied for the award with actress Jenny Slate from âDying For Sexâ.
Owen’s Heartfelt Speech With a Touch of Humor
While accepting his award, Cooper turned the spotlight on his “Adolescence” co-star, Erin Doherty, who was also nominated in the same category.
“(The) main person that I have to thank is Erin, who is also nominated for this award. That episode that we did together, it was easy to do it with you and it was such an honour to share this, share this award with you. You deserve this award just as much as I do, so round of applause for Erin please,” he said, prompting applause from the audience.
He also gave thanks to the cast and crew, especially director Philip Barantini and co-creator and star Stephen Graham, before closing with a cheeky line: “Who else, my parents for creating me. Yeah, but that’s about it. Thanks to Gotham Awards for handing me this award.”
“Adolescence” Takes Home Big Wins
Adolescence had a big night at the Gotham Awards, winning three out of four nominations. Along with Cooperâs award, the show won Breakthrough Limited Series and Outstanding Lead Performance for Stephen Graham.
The four-part Netflix drama has sparked national conversations around incel culture and online misogyny.
