After months of anticipation, the trailer for the final season of Stranger Things has finally dropped.

First hitting screens in 2016, the science fiction horror drama series quickly became one of the most popular shows on Netflix.

For the uninitiated, the show is set in the 1980s and follows the residents of the fictional small town of Hawkins, Indiana, as they are plagued by a hostile alternate dimension known as the Upside Down.

It stars Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and Sadie Sink, who play Will, Elle, Dustin, Lucas and Max.

Since filming wrapped late last year, fans have been counting down to get a glimpse of the upcoming season – and Netflix has now delivered.

The nearly three-minute long trailer, which is backed by Queen’s Who Wants to Live Forever, begins in the Upside Down as super-villain Vecna (played by Jamie Campbell Bower) emerges from the darkness and declares: ‘We can begin.’

An aerial shot shows the town of Hawkins before while Mike tells Dustin they are ‘stuck there’, which is making him ‘lose it’.

Not far away, the Army has set up a checkpoint, with a series of scenes then showing the teenage crew off on another mission of their own. Their goal? To find Vecna and ‘end this once and for all’.

Their family and friends are understandably concerned, with unsettling supernatural forces shown taking over, with plans to ‘end the world’.

‘It’s not going to stop until we’re drained of every last ounce of suffering,’ Nancy forebodes before bursting into tears.

But one powerful ally on their side is Elle, who is seen harnessing her supernatural powers to face up against their powerful foe.

It is also teased to viewers to: ‘Get ready for one last adventure.’

However, a deadly battle then plays out, as scores of demogorgan’s emerge into the real world and start attacking all in their path as explosions are set off.

Standing over bodies of multiple soldiers, Vecna then appears and takes control of Will’s body yet again, eerily declaring he is going to ‘help me one last time’.
