That Time Harrison Ford Got Out of His Car to Direct Traffic in NYC: VIDEO

Harrison Ford

Accomplished actor Harrison Ford is known for many things, but directing traffic likely isn’t one of them. However, in a throwback video on Instagram, the “Indiana Jones” star does just that. The video shows him stepping into a busy street to clear a jam before hopping back into his own chauffeured car.

“It really is him!” a fan says in the video. As News 18 reported, the actor was headed to The Carlyle Hotel when his driver got stuck in a slow-moving lane of cars near an overpass, and the incident likely occurred in 2017. Clearly, Ford isn’t afraid to take matters into his own hands when the situation calls for it.

In 2018, Ford was one of many celebrities who appeared in the documentary “Always at the Carlyle.” The movie delves into the storied history of the famous hotel, which is renowned for attracting high-caliber stars. It includes interviews from some of the best and brightest in Hollywood, including George Clooney, Sofia Coppola, and Tommy Lee Jones.

Given the timing of the traffic-directing incident, Ford may have been on his way to the hotel as part of working on the film. The documentary’s director, Matthew Miele, also gave fans “Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s,” an inside look at another iconic Manhattan landmark, in 2013.

Ford is at a time in his life when many actors consider retiring — or have already done so. However, the 83-year-old “Air Force One” star has no plan to slow down. “No,” he said definitively when Variety asked if he would ever retire. “That’s one of the things I thought was attractive about the job of an actor, was that they need old people, too, to play old people’s parts.”

In 2026, fans can catch Ford in Season 3 of “Shrinking,” where he’ll continue playing his unforgettable character, Dr. Paul Rhoades. This role earned Ford his first Emmy nomination, which may be surprising to long-time fans. However, he told Variety that receiving awards isn’t what motivates him to continue acting. “It’s what I love doing,” he explained. “I love telling stories. I love pretending to be somebody else.” Season 3 premieres on Apple TV on January 28, 2026.
