9. Babo: The Haftbefehl Story – 4,100,000 views

First up, we have our first new entry of the week in the shape of this candid documentary feature from Germany. Aykut Anhan, better known as Haftbefhel, has found fame as a gangster rapper and chronicler of street life, and the film casts a light on his journey to fame, through interviews with the man himself, as well as those close to him. This boat-based thriller got off to a buoyant start a few weeks ago, topping the charts with over 30m views – but now it’s sinking somewhat. Based on the novel by thriller writer Ruth Ware, Keira Knightley stars as Laura “Lo” Blacklock, a journalist who sees a passenger go overboard on a lavish yacht during an assignment. Except no one believes her, meaning she’s forced to risk her life to uncover the truth. (Picture: Parisa Taghizadeh/Netflix)

7. Idli Kadai – 5,200,000 views

The next new entry this week comes from this Tamil-language action drama, arriving on Netflix just weeks after it was released in cinemas. Idli Kadai centres on an executive who forgoes a lucrative life of comfort to run his family’s rural idli shop after his father’s death. However, things get rather complicated when he not only reconnects with his former high school sweetheart – in spite of being engaged to someone else – but vengeful forces from his past also re-emerge. 6. The Perfect Neighbour – 5,100,000 views

Down to number six is this unsettling, hugely compelling entry into Netflix’s ever-growing true crime canon. This one focuses on the events that shook Ocala, Florida, in summer 2023, when mother of four Ajike Owens was shot dead by her neighbour, Susan Lorincz. The feature uses bodycam footage to show what led to the killing, focusing on how a string of neighbourhood disputes ultimately turned fatal. (Picture: Netflix)

5. The Elixir – 6,100,000 views

With Halloween having just been and gone it’s no surprise to see horror rearing its head in the top 10 — this time in the shape of this Indonesian shocker. The Elixir (or Abadi Nan Jaya, to give it its original title) is set in a remote village where a herbalist, struggling to keep his family business going, stumbles across a miracle potion that appears to reverse ageing. Except of course everything spins out of control, leaving the clan in a desperate fight for survival. (Picture: Netflix)

4. Ballad Of A Small Player – 6,900,000 views

The next new entry this week is the British-made psychological thriller, which comes complete with a top-notch cast including the likes of Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton. Based on the 2014 novel by Lawrence Osborne, Ballad Of A Small Player follows the fortunes of Brendan Reilly, a disgraced Irish financier who has fled to Macau and is posing as an aristocrat called Lord Doyle. His life of drinking, gambling and fending off creditors is about to catch up with him, until he meets an enigmatic credit broker who might just be the key to his salvation. 3. Aileen: Queen Of The Serial Killers – 10,100,000

Netflix’s true crime juggernaut keeps on rolling, being responsible for the highest new entry this week. This time around the subject is female serial killer Aileen Wuornos, who, while working as a prostitute in Florida, shot dead and robbed seven male clients between 1989 and 1990. Wuornos – who was executed in 2002 – has long been a source of fascination for filmmakers, with Charlize Theron winning an Oscar for playing her in the 2003 movie Monster. This documentary takes another deep dive into her crimes, talking to those close to her as well as featuring prison interviews with Wuornos herself. (Picture: Netflix)

2. KPop Demon Hunters – 14,000,000 views

After 20 weeks on the charts, several weeks at number one and breaking new viewing records to become the most-viewed movie in Netflix history, we’re now convinced KPop Demon Hunters will be in the charts forever. Because right now, hopping back up to the runners-up spot, and still pulling in more views per week than some chart-topping films do, we just can’t imagine a top 10 without it. In case you’re still in the dark, KPop Demon Hunters tells the story of Rumi, Mira and Zoey, who belong to a successful band called Huntr/x. But by night, they’re demon hunters — a skill which comes in very handy when a mysterious new boyband appears on the scene. This isn’t just a movie any more, it’s a whole phenomenon. 1. A House Of Dynamite – 31,600,000 views

Spending a second week at number one – with over twice as many views as its nearest competitor – is the latest political thriller from Kathryn Bigelow, the first female filmmaker ever to win the best director Oscar (for 2008’s The Hurt Locker). This one unfolds in real time, telling a tense story from three different points of view as the US government scrambles to respond to an unattributed missile launch on Chicago. While some viewers have been left frustrated by the film’s ending, it’s still a brilliant, thought-provoking watch, with a stellar cast including Rebecca Ferguson, Jared Harris, Jason Clarke, Gabriel Basso and Idris Elba as the US president.
