“The Batman” Sequel Just Took a Big Step Forward

Light up the Bat Signal! Fans of Matt Reeves’ take on the dark knight of Gotham are in for a treat.

While the original movie starring Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader came out in 2022, the wait for the sequel has been interminable for fans.

Reeves and writing partner Mattson Tomlin dropped a big bombshell of news for everyone to enjoy.

The Dark Knight, Returns

Reeves and Tomlin announced the completion of their script for “The Batman II.”

The first “The Batman” took home $772 million worldwide at the box office. The movie also allowed for an expanded universe thanks to the HBO Max series “The Penguin.” It featured “The Batman” co-star Colin Farrell reprising his role as the villain.

Bam! Biff! Pow!

DC Studios co-chairman and co-CEO James Gunn recently had to stand up to detractors about the choice to push Reeves’ “Batman” sequel down the calendar to October 2027.

He told Entertainment Weekly that the script was set to come in June 2025.

“Listen, we’re supposed to get a script in June. I hope that happens. We feel really good about it. Matt’s excited. I talk to Matt all the time. I’m totally excited about it. So we can’t wait to read the scripts, but we haven’t read it yet, if that’s your question,” he said.

He added that people should let the director do his work.

“Let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That’s just the way it is. He doesn’t owe you something because you like his movie,” he added. “I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.”

The script arrives ahead of the release of Gunn’s first DC movie – “Superman” – that is going to set a new continuity in the DC movie universe.

When asked about a director’s relationship to social media, Gunn said it drives him crazy.

“Well, I don’t think Matt really pays attention to that stuff so much. He’s got a lot of other things happening, so I don’t think he lets it affect him. He’s fine,” Gunn said.

“But I am irritated by people. I mean, it’s just that thing people don’t need to be entitled about. It’s going to come out when he feels good about the screenplay,” Gunn adds. “And Matt’s not going to give me the screenplay until he feels good about the screenplay.”
