The One Show presenter Alex Jones unknowingly smuggled a one-armed monkey out of a zoo in a bag during a family day out.
The BBC television host, 45, had been visiting The London Zoo in Regent’s Park with her husband Charlie Thomson, and their young son Edward some years ago when the strange incident occurred.
Recounting the bizarre tale on Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled, Alex told fellow her fellow guests that it all kicked off when the monkey, aptly named Bandit, eyed up the nappy bag that was sitting underneath the buggy.
‘I think there must have been a banana or something hanging out,’ she says, in a clip ahead of Friday’s episode.
‘So, he jumps in, and this flipping monkey… rooted through, rooted through and we couldn’t get him out.’

Despite her husband’s efforts to convince her to leave the monkey in the bag, Alex was not having any of it.
‘I was like “I’m not leaving him, there’s monkey DNA all over my baby, I’m not leaving him in the changing bag, disgusting, germy”,’ she recalls.

Eventually, with the help of a zookeeper and a stick of fruit, the monkey finally got out of the bag… or so they thought.
‘[We] made our way back to the car and just as we went to leave the zoo, heard something,’ Alex continues.
‘When we were saying our thanks, the monkey had jumped back in, and we nearly took him home. There he was looking up at me with his teeth bared.
‘We had to go all the way back with Bandit in the bag.’
Yep, Alex put a stop to Bandit and his great escape to freedom.
As Yet Untitled airs Tuesdays at 10pm on Dave.
