The Playboy Mansion Gets a Revamp After 5 Years of Renovations

Playboy Mansion

After five years the renovations at the Playboy Mansion seem to be complete, according to the Daily Mail.

Aerial views of the property show a total transformation of the previously outdated estate. The mansion now sports a cream and aqua-blue color scheme with freshly manicured lawns.

A 42 by 23-foot solarium was added to the property, per the Daily Mail. The outlet reported a spa is underneath the solarium and is said to have one of the incredibly popular cold plunge tubs as well.

The once green tennis court was updated to a crisp blue and green combo.

The renovations are said to have cost around $10 million, according to the New York Post.

“King of the Megamansion” and celebrity architect Richard Landry led the multi-year project.

For the past few years the property was filled with scaffolding as aerial views were quite frequent as outlets liked to track the extensive renovations that were occurring.

The Mansion Sold in 2016

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner sold the mansion to Pabst Blue Ribbon heir Daren Metropoulos for $100 million, TMZ reported at the time. The deal was originally for $110 million, but it almost fell though and resulted in a $10 million discount.

Prior to purchasing the property, Metropoulos lived next door to the iconic home since 2009.

The sale came with one massive stipulation. Hefner was allowed to live in the property until his death. The Playboy founder ultimately passed away in the home in September 2017 at the age of 91.

The mansion was iconic for having wild parties which A-list celebrities frequently attended.

Metropoulos Continues to Buy Real Estate

Metropoulos frequently purchases expansive and unique properties. Before he bought the mansion, he purchased a “miniature version” of the property that was next door, according to Realtor.

He also owns a “hurricane-proof” bunker mansion located in Miami Beach, Florida as well as a 1919 estate in Palm Beach, Florida, which he purchased for $148 million.

Metropoulos spoke with The Wall Street Journal in August 2024 about his numerous properties he has acquired over roughly 20 years and what draws him to specific properties.

“My general approach is very measured and tactical and I am particularly interested in hidden jewel properties that rarely come to market,” the billionaire told the outlet. “In any business dealing, it’s paramount to remove one’s emotions. You have to stay disciplined with your terms and expectations.”
