Hugh Grant, Macaulay Culkin and co might need to watch their backs as there is a new festive classic in town, with a much higher Rotten Tomatoes score than the most beloved Christmas movies.
Hot Frosty was released on Netflix earlier this month and has become our new obsession – it follows a young widow who brings a handsome snowman to life, and falls madly in love.
However, their budding flirtation may have an abrupt ending as real life – and rising temperatures – begin to loom.
While we’re not surprised that the flick, starring Mean Girls’ Lacey Chabert and Dustin Milligan, had been a huge success, it has actually scored better reviews than some that have become staples over the years.
In fact, it currently claims a better Rotten Tomatoes score than Home Alone, Love Actually, the Holiday, Miracle on 34th Street and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
Hot Frosty currently commands a critics score of 85%, compared to an audience rating of 55% – and has flown to the top of Netflix’s global charts.

Adrian Horton from the Guardian praised: ‘It’s a sincerely stupid idea executed sincerely, with seemingly complete buy-in from all involved that yes, this is a movie about a snowman with abs. I’ll take that type of brain freeze, for now.’
Loud and Clear’s Alise Chaffins agreed: ‘Even if Hot Frosty doesn’t break any barriers of filmmaking, it is absolutely among the top tier of the holiday feel-good movie list. It has heart, pathos, humor, and just enough of a shirtless Dustin Milligan to melt any cold hearts.’
‘A self-aware Christmas rom-com with calculated “shirtless moments,” Hot Frosty is frothy entertainment that isn’t supposed to be taken seriously,’ Katie Rife from IGN Movies penned.
As LeisureByte.com’s Archi Sengupta added: ‘Netflix’s Hot Frosty, starring Lacey Chabert and Dustin Milligan, can melt our cold, dead hearts with its silliness, general insanity and Christmas spirit.’

In comparison, Home Alone – which is one of the most popular Christmas films of all time – has a critics score of 66%, while Love Actually raked up 64%.
While we’ve been obsessing over the cottage from the Holiday, Jude Law’s festive efforts landed a 51% mark, and 1994 hit Miracle on 34th Street got 60%.
With the huge reaction that Hot Frosty has received so far, all eyes have been on Netflix to announce a possible sequel, and Dustin confirmed that he would definitely be up for it.
In a chat with Swooon, he explained: ‘Someone messaged me like, “You should do the sequel, and go to Hawaii,” not to spoil it for anybody, but I was thinking about that. I was like, “Oh, yes, a snowman in Hawaii. Why not? Sure.”

‘I’m happy to dive in and play with these people again. This is such a joy to get to really just have fun every day at work. So if there could be more of that, then why not?
‘I think there’s a whole life ahead of them. I feel like Jack would find his niche in cooking. I think that was something in the movie that he really digs. Obviously, with Kathy owning the diner, I feel like that’s a natural fit. But who knows? Maybe they franchise the diner, or maybe he has his own food truck separate.
‘So there’s Kathy’s cafe, but then Jack has a pancake truck called Jack Stacks, and they can combine their skill set and just take over the whole town food-wise.’
We would watch every single second of that…
Hot Frosty is available to stream on Netflix now.
