Tiger Woods is speaking out for the first time since appearing to walk away with no major injuries from a scary crash in which he flipped his Land Rover on its side in Florida on Friday, March 27. He was charged with a DUI afterwards.
The golf legend boldly took accountability for the incident in a statement he posted on X the evening of Tuesday, March 31 which reads:
I know and understand the seriousness of the situation in which I find myself today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.
I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones, and myself at this time.
-Tiger
Several fans reacted supportively to the 5-time Masters champion’s statement. One wrote, “Take your time, focus on your health, and come back stronger.”
Another said, “True champions know when to rest and heal. Wishing you strength and a strong recovery, Tiger Woods.”
Tiger Woods Was Seen Walking Around & Using His Cell Phone Immediately Following Friday’s Crash
The 50-year-old was photographed standing beside the road and using a cell phone immediately following the scary road accident as his vehicle lay on its side. His face was covered with sunglasses, but his body language made him appear a bit concerned as he stood on the grass and held a phone to his ear.
ABC reported the cause of the accident was Tiger’s car striking the back of a trailer while he was driving around 2 p.m. on Jupiter Island. “As he was trying to move to the side of the road, the Land Rover overtook him at the last minute, swerved to avoid a collision, but clipped the back end of the trailer of the pressure cleaner apparatus,” The outlet says officials stated at a news conference.
Video Showed Tiger Heading Home Around Midnight After the Crash
The golf legend frowned into the night as he sat in the front passenger seat of a black vehicle in a photo captured shortly after midnight on Saturday, March 28.
After crawling out of his overturned vehicle, he was deemed uninjured before being quickly booked and released for a suspected DUI, the Martin County Sheriffâs Department announced.
