Tom Cruise ‘makes karma comment’ over Nicole Kidman’s split from Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman And Tom Cruise Attends 19th Annual American Film Institute (AFI) Lifetime Achievement Award
Insiders close to Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise claim that he’s taken something of a keen interest in the news of ex Nicole Kidman’s recent split from husband Keith Urban. Those close the Mission: Impossible actor say the acting legend has said the split is ‘karma’ after years of being branded the villain following his and Kidman’s 2001 break-up. As the ultimate celebrity glamour couple, Cruise and Kidman pretty much dominated the nineties. Before their sudden separation shocked the world. But insiders say that Cruise has never forgotten – or quite forgiven – how the fallout played out in the press. One source told International Business Times: ‘When Tom and Nicole split, he caught all the blame and she got all the sympathy. He was painted as the bad guy. That stuck with him for years.’ (Picture: Getty Images)
The action star – who was recently awarded an honorary Oscar – reportedly felt especially bruised by how Kidman handled their split in public. As one insider put it: ‘Tom was really stung by the way Nicole handled their break-up. She went on TV, made digs about his height and painted herself as the victim – while he stayed silent and took the hits.’ (Picture: AFP/Getty Images)
The insider claimed Cruise now feels ‘proven right’ following Kidman’s split from Urban. They continued: ‘It annoyed him when this guy was painted as this saintly figure who’d swooped in on a white horse, so to speak, and rescued Nicole from the hellish memory of their marriage.’ (Picture: John Shearer/Getty Images for Concert For Carolina)
They added: ‘He’s following the divorce news closely, and a part of him feels badly for her, since he knows how much she’s hurting. At the same time, he’s also allowing himself a little pat on the back and telling people close to him that this is karma doing its thing.’ (Picture: Getty Images)
Kidman filed for divorce on September 30 after nearly twenty years with country singer Urban. They shared daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret while juggling heavy work schedules that quite often kept them apart. Friends say she hoped they were working through their problems and claimed she was blindsided by his decision, although the actress later cited irreconcilable differences. Urban has since reappeared online after weeks of silence launching a new reality series called The Road. The programme follows aspiring country acts competing for the chance to join him on tour and in a promotional clip he joked about his old hairstyles before turning serious about the toll of performing. He said: ‘When you wake up on a tour bus at 3:30 in the morning, sick as a dog, in the middle of nowhere, completely lonely and miserable… You ask yourself, “Why am I doing this?” The only answer can be: Because this is what I’m born to do.’ (Picture: Getty Images)
Cruise meanwhile remains publicly distant from the drama. Since his own split from Kidman, he married and divorced Katie Holmes with whom he shares daughter Suri. Although he is reportedly now estranged from both. (Picture: Getty Image)
