Tom Cruise’s daughter has reportedly legally dropped her famous father’s surname to go by Suri Noelle.
Katie Holmes and ex-husband Cruise welcomed Suri in 2006, before finalising their divorce in 2012.
The 20-year-old has long been estranged from her Mission Impossible star dad and previously made headlines when she appeared to drop Cruise as her surname after she turned 18.
She was listed as Suri Noelle in the programme for her LaGuardia High School graduation ceremony in 2024.
Public records are now reported to show that Suri has registered to vote in Pennsylvania, where she is attending Carnegie Mellon University, under the name Suri Noelle.
Page Six has reported on the indication from the documents that she has legally changed her name, as voters in the state must register under their legal names.
The publication also reported that this change was not filed in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, where Suri has registered to vote, indicating that it may have been filed in New York, where she was raised by mum Holmes.
Noelle was a poignant choice of surname for Suri when she first started using it in her late teens, as it is her mother’s middle name.
An insider claimed in 2024 that she made the change as she ‘wanted her own identity’ and was hoping for a ‘fresh start’ ahead of university.
‘She is showing praise for her mother by using her middle name,’ the source told Page Six, adding that this could help her ‘avoid the paparazzi’.
The Dawson’s Creek star, 47, was in attendance at Suri’s graduation ceremony in 2024, while Cruise was in London at the time and was spotted in the crowd at Taylor Swift’s Eras tour.
Since their divorce, Holmes has kept her life with Suri private from the public eye, offering a rare comment in 2024 as she prepared to go to university.
‘I’m proud of my daughter,’ she told Town & Country magazine. ‘Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy.
‘I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.’
‘The members of my book club are going to get annoyed hearing from me,’ she laughed. ‘I’ll be like, “Let’s meet once a week.”’
