Tom Hanks’ son has revealed he’s fully leaning into a new chapter — one that involves life in a trailer park.
Chet Hanks, 35, shared that he has relocated to Tennessee to pursue his music career, confirming on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he’s now living in an RV rather than a traditional home.
‘I didn’t want to get an apartment because I literally just got a condo in LA and I furnished it,’ he explained.
‘I didn’t want to do that again… staying in Airbnbs and hotels gets really old because I just like having my own space.’
Instead, he opted for a trailer in a local park.
The move was inspired by a recent road trip, during which he stayed in an Airstream and realised he preferred the simplicity of that lifestyle.
‘I was like, “Man, I want one of these,”’ he said, before clarifying that his current setup isn’t quite that luxurious yet.
‘It’s not an Airstream! I’m not there yet. But I’m really happy with it.’
Still, his Jayco Eagle trailer has all the essentials, including a kitchen and even a walk-in shower, a detail he was particularly pleased with.
Hanks added that the reality of trailer park life has been far from the stereotype.
‘I’m probably the youngest person there by like 30 or 40 years,’ he said. ‘It’s not what you think… it’s all just retirees.’
Despite the outdoorsy setting, his day-to-day life hasn’t changed dramatically.
‘I have a fire pit and I have used it,’ he said. ‘But most of the time, I just do exactly what I do at home, which is just stay inside and lay in bed and watch Netflix.’
The shift comes as Hanks focuses on his music career with duo Something Out West, alongside bandmate Drew Arthur.
The pair released their debut EP, Leaving Hollywood, last year — a title that now feels especially fitting.
Ahead of the release, they dropped a music video for their single You Better Run, which featured a cameo from his father, Tom Hanks, in a playful nod to Forrest Gump.
