Travis Kelce Denies the Latest Rumors About His Offseason Training

Travis Kelce is used to headlines, but he’s setting the record straight on one offseason rumor that got out of hand. During a recent press conference at Kansas City Chiefs minicamp, the 35-year-old tight end laughed off viral reports claiming he lost 25 pounds over the summer — and opened up about why he’s back for a 13th NFL season with one goal in mind: another championship ring.

Travis Kelce Denies Dropping 25 Pounds: ‘Don’t Believe All You Read on the Internet’

When asked about ESPN’s report that he’d dropped 25 pounds during the offseason, Kelce didn’t hold back. “Don’t believe all you read on the internet, guys, all right?” he said with a grin. “I never told anybody I lost 25 pounds.”

That said, during a press conference, Kelce acknowledged he’s “down some weight” from where he ended last season. “Each year’s different,” he added. “You’ve got to rebuild.” This offseason, he focused on form running and conditioning early, and it’s already paying off. “I’m certainly feeling good.”

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler had reported on SportsCenter that Kelce would debut “a bit of a slimmer look” at minicamp, citing unnamed sources who claimed the tight end vowed to slim down after playing heavier last season.

Last offseason, Kelce himself previously joked about his size on his “New Heights” podcast, where he and his older brother Jason Kelce laughed about being in the same weight class.

In June, when Kelce and his buddy Patrick Mahomes struggled to fit into their jerseys during an appearance at Big Slick, Mahomes quipped, “This is a dad-bod season.”

“I have no kids,” Kelce replied. “This is just what it looks like at 35!”

The Future Hall of Famer’s Return for the 2025 Season Is Fueled by Last Year’s Loss

Despite speculation that the 2024-25 season would be his last, Kelce made it clear he’s not going anywhere — yet.

“I love football,” he told reporters. “I don’t think I really thought about [retiring] that much.”

Kelce made the decision to return early in the offseason but waited to speak publicly until emotions cooled from the Chiefs’ blowout Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

“I really didn’t feel like it was my last game,” he said. “It just felt like I’ve got a lot more to prove.”

Now heading into his 13th NFL season, Kelce is focused squarely on redemption. “Championship” is the only word on his mind. “Last year wasn’t a success for me,” he admitted. “Especially in that last game. I failed in being a leader and making plays.”

Although he didn’t participate in OTAs, Kelce showed up for mandatory minicamp ready to lead. His stats may have dipped last season — career lows in yardage (823) and touchdowns (three) — but his motivation has never been higher.

Kelce also hinted that 2025 might not be his final ride, telling reporters, “We’ll try and figure out something for next year.” Still, he emphasized that the Chiefs have his heart. “I can’t see myself ever playing anywhere else.”

With Kansas City currently tied for second-best odds to win the Super Bowl, Kelce isn’t just chasing stats — he’s chasing legacy. “I’m only interested in Super Bowl rings,” he said. “That’s how I measure a year.”
