Travis Kelce Responds to Retirement Reports

Travis Kelce

While Travis Kelce is one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the game of football, he unfortunately won’t be able to do so forever.

And considering he is 36 years old and currently playing in his 13th NFL season, it’s no secret that retirement is on the horizon for Kelce. But, as for whether that will be after this season, it remains to be seen.

The tight end spoke with reporters on Friday, Nov. 21, and provided some information as to when he will ultimately make a final decision about his future in the NFL.

“I think, seeing my brother go through it and seeing, I don’t know, just how the league works, the season kind of restarts in April,” Kelce said per KSHB 41. “And I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity to, whether I come back or not, and vice versa, like whether they want me back or not. It’s one of those things where I’d like to make that decision before they got to get draft picks and the free agency opens, so that it gives them an opportunity to go out there and fill the roster appropriately.”

So when will that be exactly?

“All that will be at the end of the season,” he continued. “I won’t be thinking about it until then.”

If Travis Kelce Does Return For A 14th Season, There is One Thing He Doesn’t Want

Kelce made it VERY clear that no decision has been made about his future, but he did provide one message IF he decides to return. And it centers around what another famous athlete did at the end of his career.

Prior to the 2015-2016 NBA season, Lakers legend Kobe Bryant revealed that he would return for one more season in what became known as his “farewell tour.”

So naturally, the tight end was asked if he is interested in doing one of those.

“Listen, I love Kobe, man,” Kelce said per KSHB 41. “I love him. I love everything about him, man, but that’s not me. I’d like to take it day by day, year by year, and just evaluate it like that.”

Travis Kelce Has Shown No Signs of Stopping

Despite the Chiefs’ struggles this year, Kelce has continued to be a bright spot, proving that age is just a number.

In the team’s loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 11, Kelce became the franchise leader in total touchdowns with a 21-yard catch-and-run score. His 84 touchdowns put him past former Kansas City running back Priest Holmes.

However, after the game, Kelce showed that the only thing he cared about was his team and making sure they secured the win, which they were unable to do.

“If you’re gonna ask about the record, I could care less about that right now,” Kelce told The Ringer’s Lindsay Jones.

This season, Kelce leads the Chiefs with 50 receptions for 631 yards and four touchdowns.
