Brady Ebert, guitarist and founding member of Turnstile, has reportedly been arrested on an attempted second-degree murder charge.

The 33-year-old musician was arrested in Montgomery County, Maryland, on March 31, according to police records.

He was also charged with one count of assault, as well as the attempted murder allegations, relating to an incident on Sunday, March 29.

He first appeared in court on April 1 and is being held without bail.

Ebert was one of the original members of hardcore group Turnstile but left in 2022 after 12 years performing with them.

His bandmates, Brendan Yates, Daniel Fang, and Franz Lyons, did not offer any explanation for the guitarist’s exit at the time.

In a shared statement, the Birds singers said they were ‘deeply grateful for our time together’, with Ebert forming a new band in 2025.

He had notably been absent from the band’s tours, and had been replaced by Greg Cerwonka of Take Offense. Meg Mills was then brought on as touring guitarist replacing Greg Cerwonka.

Ebert has since been kicked out of The S.E.T after he accused Turnstile of misusing funds from a charity show.

The S.E.T. announced they would be parting ways with Ebert weeks before the scheduled release of their debut album, Self Evident Truth, on March 6.

In a post on Instagram, they wrote: ‘Brady is no longer a member of THE S.E.T. We will not stand by his ridiculous comments and behaviour toward the members of our band and our community.’

Turnstile had posted a graphic reading ‘abolish ICE’, the American immigration force, which was then reposted by journalist Jesea Lee.

Ebert replied to Lee, claiming ‘no one in Turnstile cares at all about ethics or social issues in general’ and they were ‘just pandering to their audience.’

He then alleged that Yates stole money from a charity gig, in which they claimed ‘all proceeds go to healthcare for the homeless’.

According to Ebert, the group had raised $10,000 (£7,573) for charity but the frontman took $4,000 (£3,029) to ‘pay the merch bill’, which he believed ‘was false’.

It’s also been claimed that drummer Fang has a restraining order out against their former bandmate after his exit.

Ebert added in the Instagram comments: ‘Also my friends filed a restraining order and guess what, they had two laywers with them abd I showed up to court bt myself and the judge DENIED the restraining order because there was no statute in the laws about what qualifies for a restraining order that they were able to meet the requirements of. [sic]’

He concluded: ‘In other words, they had no reason to file it and it was all over text messages which they showed the judge and the judge agreed with me without me even having to testify, so next time before u spread bullst misinformation, say that to my face’.

Turnstile have not commented publicly on Ebert’s exit beyond the announcement or his claims about the restraining order and misuse of funds.

The hardcore punk group originally formed in 2010, gaining popularity with their third album, Glow On, in 2021, before seeing chart success with Never Enough last year.

The group secured their first Grammy Awards this year for best metal performance and best rock album.
