Viewers have been left ‘crying with laughter’ after watching ‘one of the funniest shows’ to be released this year.
HBO’s The Chair Company retained its perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes following the release of its second episode last night.
And it appears to be showing no signs of slowing down, after fans hailed the ‘sensationally’ weird and inventive blend of cringe comedy and surreal mystery.
The eight-episode series, co-created by and starring Tim Robinson, sees Ron Trosper (Robinson) investigate a far-reaching conspiracy after an embarrassing workplace incident.
Writing on X following the latest episode’s release, @big_business_ said: ‘The Chair Company is one of the weirdest, most stupidest and funniest TV shows in ages.’
@yourfavg0blin added: ‘I cannot believe the direction this show is taking. How does it manage to get better every single episode. I’m so glad they decided to do a weekly release instead of dropping the full season at once. I LOVE THIS SHOW.’
@WillyWhips also wrote: ‘While watching both episodes so far I’ve started laughing so hard I can barely breathe. Not a lot of shows have that effect anymore.’
Meanwhile, @JefftheSpursfan argued: ‘The Chair Company legit is one of the funniest shows all year. The newest episode was so good.’
@todderov28 echoed this sentiment by saying: ‘The Chair Company is as sensational as you’d expect it to be. First two episodes are like a horror film/fever dream.
‘So many moments that have absolutely blown me away.’
Discussing a specific moment in the series, @kettlevinyl said: ‘This moment from the chair company made me giggle so hard last night I had real tears in my eyes, made me giggle out loud when I remembered it on my walk to work this morning, and has me giggling once more as I type this.’
@brandonwenerd similarly wrote: ‘Pretty sure this scene in E2 of HBO’s The Chair Company may have been the hardest I’ve laughed at a TV show all year.’
Co-written by Zach Kanin, the cringe-inducing comedy also stars Lake Bell, Sophia Lillis, Will Price, and Joseph Tudisco.
So far, the show has also received rave reviews from critics, despite the fact that its humour might not be suited to everybody’s taste.
It also marks former Saturday Night Live alumni Robinson’s return to TV after his success with the sketch show I Think You Should Leave and Detroiters.
This came after the release of his film Friendship, starring Paul Rudd, earlier this year.
The Chair Company airs weekly on Sky Comedy and is available to stream on NOW.
