Vin Diesel Tears Up While Honoring Paul Walker at ‘Fast & The Furious’ Screening

Vin Diesel had an emotional moment onstage as he honored his late “Fast & Furious” co-star Paul Walker during a special 25th anniversary screening of “The Fast and the Furious” at the Cannes Film Festival.

The actor appeared visibly moved while addressing the crowd at the Grand Lumière Theatre on May 13, reflecting on the legacy of the 2001 film and the bond he shared with Walker, who passed away in 2013. According to Variety, Diesel paused to gather himself before delivering a heartfelt message about his longtime friend.

“I pray that in your life, you can have a brother like Paul,” Diesel said, drawing applause from the audience.

The moment carried even more weight as several members of the “Fast” family were in attendance, including Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez and Walker’s daughter, Meadow Walker. The crowd gave the group a four-minute standing ovation as emotions ran high inside the theater.

Diesel also reflected on how revisiting the film today brings back memories that feel different with time. “It’s so hard for me to watch it because there’s so many moments in this movie that you see, that I see differently,” he said, recalling a moment when Walker spoke to him about his young daughter.

One of the most touching parts of the night came when Diesel shared the spotlight with Meadow Walker, who has remained closely connected to her father’s “Fast” family over the years.

Per People, Diesel introduced Meadow to the audience, describing her presence as a continuation of the franchise’s core theme of brotherhood. He admitted he was overwhelmed in the moment, telling the crowd he needed to “go and shed a tear.”

Meadow later spoke with Diesel’s support, calling the cast a “source of strength,” as the two shared an emotional embrace onstage. Diesel also revealed something Meadow told him earlier that day, adding another layer to the tribute.

“She said, ‘I’m 27, and I’m watching this film that my father made at 27,’ and I thought, ‘How profound,’” Diesel said, noting that Walker would be proud of her.

The moment highlighted how deeply Walker’s legacy continues to be felt not just by fans, but by those closest to him.

Beyond the emotional tribute, the night also served as a reminder of the bond that defined the “Fast & Furious” franchise from the very beginning.

Diesel and Walker first met while filming the original movie and developed a close friendship that lasted more than a decade. According to E! News, the two often referred to each other as brothers both on and off screen, with Diesel once writing, “I will always love you… as the brother you were… on and off screen.”

That real-life connection became the emotional foundation of the franchise, which has gone on to gross more than $7 billion worldwide, per Variety. Even after Walker’s passing, Diesel has continued to honor him in each installment, keeping his presence central to the story.

Diesel also took a moment to thank fans for their continued support, explaining that their loyalty is what keeps the franchise going.

“The only reason why we’re making the finale of ‘Fast’ for 2028 is because of each and every one of you,” he said. “Each and every one of you that has felt like you were a part of our family.”

He closed his remarks by bringing it back to the message that started it all.

“What you’re gonna watch tonight is the beginning of one word,” Diesel said. “And that word is love.”
