Wendy Williams made a living off her outspoken personality and content, which a few fans consider shock-jock quality. One of Williams’ biggest strengths was that she wasn’t afraid of offending anyone — seemingly no topic was off limits with her guests. However, there was one interview she did on The Wendy Williams Show that made even her diehard fans squirm, so much so it might’ve turned a few viewers off.

Fans have seen many sides to Williams during her time on The Wendy Williams Show. At the show’s peak, Williams has been pleasant, sassy, and everything in between while hosting her many entertaining guests. But what fans weren’t used to seeing was the bored, low-energy Williams they witnessed when journalist Chris Witherspoon visited her home away from home. Witherspoon was a familiar face on the show. Every once in a while, he’d pop in to cover entertainment trends and movie releases.

But on his October 2020 visit to The Wendy Williams Show, Williams wasn’t having anything that Witherspoon was selling at the time. As Witherspoon gave fans the rundown on upcoming film releases, Williams sat next to the journalist while barely looking at him. She gave an empty stare to the audience and the camera as Witherspoon maintained his professionalism and kept talking. One of the only times Williams acknowledged or spoke to her guest was to warn him.

“Stop looking at me,” she told Witherspoon according to The Sun.

She ended the interview by unenthusiastically telling fans that the movie Witherspoon was talking about, Freaky, would hit theaters that Friday. According to the publication, many fans noticed Williams’ uninterested disposition and were quick to call her out on social media.

“If poor sad Wendy looked anymore miserable she would die right during this segment,” one fan wrote. “If she hates doing her show so much, why the hell am I watching this sliding mess of a so called show? Waste of my time, when given so much, she clearly cares so little.”

“Wendy is so disrespectful! I get it if you don’t like movies like that, but you at least could be civil about it,” another fan wrote. “You don’t have to lie that you love them, but there’s absolutely no need to be this rude. Poor Chris.”

It’s unclear what sparked Williams’ response to Witherspoon’s routine that day. However, according to another fan, it was a clear sign that The Wendy Williams Show needed to end, which it would two years later due to Williams’ behavioral issues and alcohol addiction.

“I wish Tamron Hall were funny and enjoyable because Wendy needs to retire now. Mumbling, mispronouncing, bad attitude,” another fan said.

Williams might’ve felt a smudge of what Witherspoon experienced on her own show. The big difference was that Williams didn’t respond to the situation with Witherspoon’s tact or patience when the time came. The once-affluent radio personality invited celebrity insider and award-winning journalist Nancy Redd onto her program. After introducing Redd to the crowd, Redd covered a few trending topics in the entertainment industry. But deep into the conversation, Williams interrupted Redd when she noticed that the author wasn’t looking at her.

“Nancy, I’m over here,” Williams told Redd on The Wendy Williams Show. “Let’s talk to each other and the camera.”

Redd agreed to Williams’ show etiquette but made it clear in a very polite manner that Williams already made the episode awkward between them.

“Thank you for making me feel comfortable,” Redd said sarcastically.
