
Oscarâwinning actress Reese Witherspoon is gearing up to celebrate a major milestone in striking fashion.
For her 50th birthday on Marchâ¯22,â¯2026, Witherspoon has chosen to embark on a motherâson trip with her 13âyearâold son Tennessee James Toth, trading redâcarpet glamour for travel and quality time.
In a recent interview with Harperâs Bazaar, Witherspoon revealed she and Tennessee will head to Europe, visiting friends in Italy and enjoying a more intimate, relaxed way to mark the year.
Witherspoon told the magazine, âItâs just me and him â Iâm excited about it!â
The trip represents a shift in how she approaches celebrationsâmoving away from big public events toward meaningful experiences with her closest people.
She added that turning 50 feels empowering. âI like getting older,â she said. âI think itâs great to be wiser and understand your place in a business. Iâve worked really hard to get to that place⦠I feel like Iâm living my purpose, for sure. I love my job. I love my fans. Iâm the captain of my own destiny.”
Witherspoon Opens Up About Postpartum Depression
Witherspoon is a mother of three: daughter Ava Phillippe, 26, and son Deacon Phillippe, 22, whom she shares with her exâhusband Ryan Phillippe; and son Tennessee with her ex, talent agent Jim Toth.
Parenting across three kids and multiple households has shaped much of her journey through Hollywood and motherhood.Â
The “Morning Show” actress bravely opened up to the outlet about struggling with postpartum depression after Avaâs birth in 1999.
“It was really bad,” she revealed. “In the first six months, I was simultaneously happy and depressed. I just cried all the time, I was up all night, I was exhausted. It was a hormone drop I didnât expect, which I experienced right after birth and again when I stopped nursing six months later.”
The 49-year-old also expressed how it was difficult being a young mom, as she had Ava when she was just 23.
“Itâs hard being a young mom and having people tell you how to be, how to react, how to give birth, how to nurse and how to feed your baby. Itâs inundating,” she added.
Witherspoon Has Always Been Candid on Juggling a Career and Motherhood
In August of 2025, the “Walk the Line” actress opened up about the difficulty of having both a career and raising children.
She shared a carousel of images to social media with the words, “Someone asked me what raising three kids and building a career in Hollywood looked likeâ¦â
In the images, she highlighted the struggle and wrote a caption on each image. “It looked like spending a lot of time in trailers together,” she said on one picture.
