Bridgerton prequel spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story has launched on Netflix, with viewers across the globe swarming to watch all six episodes of the limited series as soon as possible.
The first episode of the show introduces fans to the young Queen Charlotte, played by India Amarteifio in a stellar performance as an initially-reluctant royal.
Meanwhile, flashforwards to the present day of the universe also reunite them with Golda Rosheuvel’s iteration of the character.
At the end of the first episode, a tribute appears that reads: ‘In Memory of Jacqueline Avant.’
While some people may know who she was, others may not be aware of her life and the incredible influence that she had.
Who was Jacqueline Avant?
Avant was a philanthropist who was killed on December 1 2021 at the age of 81, after a man shot her during a home invasion.

The man had broken into the Beverly Hills residence in California where she lived with her husband, legendary music executive Clarence Avant, who is also known as ‘The Black Godfather’.
In April last year, the assailant, a man called Aariel Maynor, was sentenced 190 years to life in prison, after the judge found that he had ‘planned’ a burglary and shot Jacqueline as a ‘completely vulnerable victim’ who was ‘no match for him’ and was ‘caught by surprise’.
When the Beverly Hills Police arrived at the home, Jacqueline’s husband Clarence was ‘holding her head’, while she was still ‘breathing faintly’ at the time, Deputy District Attorney Victor Avila outlined in a sentencing memo, Rolling Stone reported.

In a statement read by the Deputy District Attorney, the couple’s daughter Nicole Avant said: ‘There are no words to describe the nightmare we have endured due to the cruel and vicious acts of the defendant. We are shattered.’
Nicole, a film producer, is married to Ted Sarandos, the co-CEO of Netflix.
Jacqueline and Clarence were married in 1967, and also had a son together, Alexander Du Bois Avant, born in 1971, while Nicole was born three years prior in 1968.
Numerous high-profile figures in the entertainment industry paid tribute to Jacqueline following her death, with Oprah Winfrey telling Variety: ‘Grace is one of those things you can’t predict. It doesn’t just come, it shows up and blesses you.
‘That is how you always felt if you were in Jacquie Avant’s presence. She showed up and you were blessed.’

Musician Pharrell Williams added: ‘She was the matriarch of our community. While I was not born and raised in LA, when I say “our community” I mean amongst Black people.
‘But all other communities looked at her as a shining, living example of elegance. Someone beyond everything that they had accumulated whose wealth was experience.’
Born in Jamaica, Queens, New York, Jacqueline served as the president of the Neighbours of Watts, a support group for the South Central Community Child Care Center.
She became a founding member of UCLA’s Rape Treatment Center board, and supported the building of the Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts for nearly two decades alongside her husband.
Last week, The Jacqueline Avant Children and Family Center – formerly named The MLK Child and Family Well-Being Center – was unveiled in the Watts-Willowbrook community of Los Angeles.
For decades, the centre has been providing under-served youth with services to support their physical and mental health.
