Why Award-Winning ‘Breaking Bad’ Star Left Hollywood & Moved to France

Aaron Paul Leaves Los Angeles for Paris After Wildfires

Aaron Paul and his wife, Lauren, have officially hit reset in France after the wildfires that tore through Los Angeles earlier this year. The “Breaking Bad” star said the disaster became the moment that made them realize they were ready to walk away from the city for good.

“When the fires happened in LA, we just knew that we were done with LA, so we sold our house in LA and moved to Paris,” Paul told the Daily Mail during an F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix event on Friday.

“Paris is awesome,” he added, noting that he’s still learning the language and can only say a few phrases so far, including “bonjour.”

A Dream Year Abroad Built Around the Kids

Paul said the decision to relocate was rooted in their kids, daughter Story Annabelle, 7, and son Ryden Caspian, 3. “We went out there for the kiddos,” Aaron said. He noted that the move wasn’t spontaneous but something he and Lauren had talked about for years. The couple has “always dreamt of doing a year abroad.”

“We just always wanted to be around a completely different culture,” the actor said.

The family has settled in so comfortably that Paul shared they’re now thinking about staying longer than the original one-year plan.

The relocation carries personal meaning for the couple. As per E! News, they got engaged in Paris in 2012 and celebrated a Paris-themed wedding in Malibu the following year. This summer, they put their standout Los Feliz property on the market.

As per Mansion Global, the $10 million Spanish-style estate has its own Hollywood pedigree. Past owners include Tim Curry, Robert Pattinson, and Jim Parsons, and the home features a freeform pool, an amphitheater, a koi pond, and an outdoor fireplace.

The wildfire crisis that pushed Paul to leave LA devastated much of the entertainment community. In January, fast-moving flames swept through parts of Los Angeles, hitting the Palisades and Eaton regions the hardest.

California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency, and more than 100,000 residents were ordered to evacuate.

Paris Hilton’s Malibu beachfront home was destroyed. Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, Heidi Klum, Anna Faris, Miles and Keleigh Teller, Anthony Hopkins, and Eugene Levy also lost their Pacific Palisades homes. Others, including Britney Spears, had to evacuate temporarily while firefighters fought to contain the blaze.
