On Tuesday, February 24, more than three weeks into the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, Savannah Guthrie and her family upped their reward offer to $1 million.

“She may have already gone home to the Lord that she loves and is dancing in heaven with her mom and her dad and with her beloved brother Pierce and with our daddy,” the “Today” host said in her Tuesday Instagram plea. “If this is what is to be, then we will accept it. But we need to know where she is. We need her to come home. For that reason, we are offering a family reward of up to $1 million.”

Why Savannah Guthrie and Family Increased Reward

Shortly after Nancy was reported missing on February 1, the FBI’s Phoenix division announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to her recovery. Fans were quick to call out the low sum, and questioned why the Guthrie family would not offer more for their mother’s safety.

According to Fox News Digital reporter Michael Ruiz, the thought process may have been a strategy.

“Sources with knowledge of the family’s thinking say the Guthries initially raised the idea of the reward on the first day of the investigation,” Ruiz shared via X on Tuesday. “They were advised by law enforcement to hold off as ‘doing so earlier might overwhelm the infrastructure set up to field leads, tens of thousands of which have been coming in organically.’”

He added, “They are now offering the seven figure sum after coordinating with investigators. They are working closely with law enforcement on this.”

Savannah Guthrie’s Emotional Plea

According to the “Today” host, the Guthrie family is aware that their mother may no longer be alive. However, they are still begging for the public’s help in finding her so that they can properly “celebrate” her life.

“We are hoping that the attention that has been given to our mom and our family will extend to all the families like ours who are in need and need prayers and need support,” Guthrie said in her emotional video. “So please, if you hear this message, if you’ve been waiting and you haven’t been sure, let this be your sign to please come forward, tell what you know, and help us bring our beloved mom home so that we can either celebrate a glorious, miraculous homecoming.”

“Or,” she continued, “celebrate the beautiful, brave, and courageous, and noble life that she has lived. Please be the light in the dark. Thank you.”
