Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is used to winningâbut after a crushing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, the two-time NFL MVP is treating this offseason differently. The typically lighthearted star made it clear: July 4th isnât a time for celebration.
âI donât do fireworks in July,â Mahomes said with a sly smile, according to Chiefs Outsider on X. âI do them in February.â
That one-liner speaks volumes. The Chiefs were dismantled in a 40â22 Super Bowl defeat that felt even more lopsided than the score. For Mahomesâa three-time Super Bowl champion and three-time Super Bowl MVPâit was a rare humiliation, and one he clearly hasnât forgotten.
Now 29 years old and entering his prime, Mahomes was spotted walking into the Chiefs facility for offseason conditioning while the rest of America fired up the grill.
Brittany and Patrick Still Found Time to Celebrate in Style
Despite Mahomesâ steely mindset, he and wife Brittany still made time for a low-key Fourth of July celebration with friends. Brittany, 29, gave fans a glimpse into their getaway on Instagram, sharing photos of the couple lounging on a boat in Miami.
âRed, White & Yâallð¤â¤ï¸ð,â she captioned the post, which included solo shots in a string-detailed blue one-piece and a sweet moment of Patrick kissing her on the temple. In matching blue swim trunks, Mahomes looked relaxed but noticeably fitâsomething fans didnât miss.
The NFL star has been playfully teased online for his so-called âdad bod,â but his trainer, Bobby Stroupe, insists Mahomesâ build is perfect for football. âHis body type is not what you would think of,â Stroupe told The Athletic, but added it gives Mahomes a durability edge.
Mahomes himself leaned into the discussion earlier this year in an interview with TIME, saying, âI have a great body for a quarterback. Youâve got to have some padding in there to take the hits that we take.â
