‘Wicked: For Good’ Casting Update [Video]

Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Wicked: For Good

“Wicked: For Good” is set to hit movie theaters on November 21. The movie stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, and Jeff Goldblum. Now, the social media team responsible for promoting the movie has revealed that Colman Domingo will also appear in the new movie.

The “Wicked: For Good” team made the reveal on October 20 with an Instagram reel. The video begins with a person hiding behind a stuffed lion. From there, Domingo reveals himself, and a text overlay says, “Coleman Domingo is The Cowardly Lion.”

The beloved actor then says, “See you in Oz,” before giving the camera a wink. Now, fans are already expressing their excitement over the “Wicked: For Good” casting update. One person commented, “OMGGG!!!!! WHAT A LEGEND!!! THIS IS AMAZING!!!! 🦁💛”

Someone else wrote, “OH MY OZ !!!!🦁” Another fan said, “THANK GOODNESS.”

The ‘Wicked: For Good’ Director Recently Teased The Cowardly Lion

Jon M. Chu, who directed “Wicked,” recently spoke to Deadline about the film’s sequel. During the discussion, he teased the actor who would be playing The Cowardly Lion. He stated that he approached the actor, Domingo, on social media.

According to Chu, “I was like, ‘It’s not a ton of lines, but maybe you have a little time. I know you’re busy. I’ll come to you.’ He was like, ‘Why not, let’s go!’ And then we went ahead and recorded the lines.”

He then said, “Man, wait until the red carpet when the actor who gave us the Cowardly Lion’s voice steps foot on it. It’ll be wild.”

Chu also spoke about the movie in general, specifically about Erivo’s Elphaba. He said, “Elphaba’s a superhero in this one. I mean that opening, cold open, she comes down.”

The “Wicked” director continued, “We wanted to show how powerful she really was. I think this is how you show a superhero, especially these women as superheroes, and not have to fit into what a guy’s superhero is, the stereotype of it all. Elphaba’s her own person, and Glinda could be too. It’s also the origin story of Glinda the Good.”

The Movie Is off to a Strong Start

Sequels are difficult for any director to get right. However, “Wicked: For Good” is already off to a strong start, partly due to the overwhelming success of the first film. Recently, it was announced that the film shattered records for ticket presales.

Film Updates posted on X, “‘WICKED: FOR GOOD’ now holds the record for the biggest first-day of tickets pre-sales by a PG movie in Fandango history. It also enters the top 10 first-day ticket pre-sellers of all time on Fandango.”

According to Forbes, the first “Wicked” movie made $473,231,120 domestically and $261,471,076 internationally. This figure does not include what it’s earned from digital platforms.
