‘Wicked: For Good’ Shatters Records Ahead of Its Release

Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Wicked: For Good

“Wicked” was released in movie theaters in November 2024 and became an instant hit. Now, the sequel to the Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande is a tad more than a month away. Fans can now buy tickets for “Wicked: For Good,” and the film has already broken box office records. Notably, this is before any movie reviews have been released.

The Film Updates account on X posted on October 9 that “Wicked: For Good” had amassed the highest first-day sales of any PG movie ever. They wrote, “‘WICKED: FOR GOOD’ now holds the record for the biggest first-day of tickets pre-sales by a PG movie in Fandango history.”

The post continued, “It also enters the top 10 first-day ticket pre-sellers of all time on Fandango.” Universal Pictures’ “Wicked: For Good” will hit movie theaters on November 21, 2025. Unlike the first film, it will feature brand-new music.

In addition to Erivo and Grande, it stars Jonathan Bailey, Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater, and Jeff Goldblum. As with the first, Jon M. Chu directed “Wicked: For Good.”

Erivo and Grande are gearing up for a massive press tour in support of “Wicked: For Good.” Tickets for the upcoming film went on sale on October 8. The official Instagram for the movie began teasing the tickets the day before with clips from the trailer.

Additionally, they provided information on the various formats in which the movie will be released. This includes IMAX, Dolby, ScreenX, 4DX, etc. There will also be Amazon Prime early screenings for “Wicked: For Good” on November 17.

The First Movie Was a Massive Success

Of course, the Broadway version of “Wicked” is one of the most revered musicals of all time. However, stage success doesn’t always translate to box office wins. Luckily, “Wicked” did exceptionally well during its lengthy theatrical run.

According to Forbes, the first movie made an astounding $473,231,120 domestically. Including international audiences, “Wicked” made a jaw-dropping $734,690,811. These figures become even more impressive when its $145 million budget is taken into consideration.

The film received 10 Oscar nominations. They include Best Actress for Erivo, Best Supporting Actress for Grande, and Film Editing. It won two awards: Best Costume Design for Paul Tazewell and Best Production Design for Nathan Crowley.
