Will Reeve Honors His Father With ‘Superman’ Movie Cameo

“Superman” is flying high after a heroic opening weekend, bringing in $217 million according to Deadline and The Wrap.

The James Gun reboot features a nod to “Superman” lore, with a cameo by Will Reeve, the son of late actor Christopher Reeve. The elder Reeve was the first to ever play Superman on the big screen.

Will, who is a correspondent for ABC News, says he jumped at the chance to be in the film in honor of his father.

“I was honored to get the call from the wonderful filmmakers, and I jumped at the opportunity,” Will told the New York Post.

“And it was a nice homage, I think, to my dad, who for millions of people has been Superman for generations, and for the filmmakers of this new version of Superman,” he said. “To include me as a way to include him meant a lot.”

Will also said keeping his role in the film a secret very quickly proved impossible. In fact, he hadn’t even returned from filming in Cleveland in 2024 when word leaked out!

“I went on set, I did my thing for a few minutes, and then got in the car to head back to the airport to go home,” Will laughed. “And by the time I had gotten to the gate, it had leaked online that I had a cameo.”

In an Instagram post by Good Morning America, Will Reeve says his dad “defined the role for so many people for so many years. So, to be walking literally in his footsteps was something special to me.”

Will Reeve Interviews New Superman David Corenswet

Will Reeve is also taking the lead in media coverage of the new movie for ABC News.

The journalist interviewed David Corenswet, who plays Superman in the new movie, for ABC World News Tonight.

“Why do you think people have such strong opinions and such passion for Superman as a character?” Will Reeve asked Corenswet.

“Well, first, I think a lot of it is because of your dad. I mean, it’s so rare that you have a character so effectively portrayed on screen. You know, that makes the actor a world, a global movie star, and they become sort of inextricably linked. And then to have a circumstance in life that puts them in a position where they have a chance to play that part in their lives but in a public way, again. But in a way that feels separate from the film. But not separate from the character and the spirit of the character,” said Corenswet.

Christopher Reeve was paralyzed from the neck down in a horseback riding accident in 1995. He passionately pursued spinal cord research until his death in 2004.

In fact, Will Reeve says “Superman” director James Gunn screened the documentary “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” as part of his preparation for the new movie.
