Woody Allen is one of the most prolific filmmakers of all time. This is thanks to movies like “Annie Hall,” “Deconstructing Harry,” and “To Rome With Love.” Of course, the 89-year-old’s almost three-decade marriage to 59-year-old Soon-Yi Previn is also a significant topic of discussion. Recently, he opened up about his beloved wife.
Allen spoke to The Wall Street Journal about his newest novel on September 17. However, during the interview, the filmmaker and writer also shared some loving comments about his longtime marriage to Previn.
Allen said, “If anyone had told me years ago that I would be married to a girl much younger than me with no background in New York or none of the similar interests growing up, and that sheâd be a Korean orphan, I would have said, âNo chance. Iâm going to be married to a New York actress.’”
He then said, “But it didnât work out that way.” The movie director also praised Previn, calling her “disciplined” and “a wonderful mother.” Allen also stated that she has “a larger-than-life personality.”
Allen Doesn’t Regret His Personal Life with Previn
As many are aware, the age difference between Allen and Previn isn’t the only controversial part of their relationship. He married her five years after divorcing Mia Farrow. This is notable because Farrow and her ex-husband had adopted Previn.
Despite this, Allen says he has no regrets about how his relationship with Previn developed. Instead, he has professional regrets. He said, “I wish I didnât do this film, I wish I had made this film better, I wish I had shot this scene differently, I wish I had not written this, I wish I had gone in that direction.”
In fact, Allen says he has “many” regrets about his career despite his work remaining respected by film buffs all over the world.
His Novel Will be Released in 2025
Allen has been in the movie industry since 1965, when “What’s New Pussycat” was released. Since then, he has helmed over 60 movies, with many of them being considered classics. Now, he is releasing his debut novel, “What’s With Baum?” According to The Guardian, the main character of the book is a writer who is slowly descending into insanity.
The book will be released in the US on September 26 via Post Hill Press and Swift Press. Each publishing company will distribute it in various parts of the world.
