Xbox reveals Bill Skarsgård will play the lead in Hideo Kojima’s Physint

After being saved from cancellation by Xbox, Physint now has its lead actor and despite the fan theories, it’s not Robert Pattinson.

Although Sony opted to cancel Hideo Kojima’s Physint, which is billed as a new stealth game and successor to the Metal Gear series, Xbox quickly snapped it up for itself.

This means Kojima is partnering with Xbox on two games now – Physint and horror game OD – although it’s still unclear whether either will be released on PlayStation 5.

In the meantime, Kojima and Xbox have already released new info on Physint and while there’s still no footage or screenshots, they can confirm that Bill Skarsgård is serving as the face of the game.

If you don’t recognise the name, Skarsgård is most famous for his performance as Pennywise, the monstrous clown from the 2017 It movie, its 2019 sequel, and the spin-off TV series Welcome To Derry.

Physint marks Skarsgård’s first ever appearance in a video game, where he’s performing as the main character. Xbox and Kojima haven’t said anything about his character’s role or even his name, though.

This puts to bed rumours and theories that Robert Pattinson would be playing the lead, which was based on a vague silhouette of the main character, as well as how Pattinson had met and ‘discussed some things’ with Kojima.

Skarsgård has joined an ensemble cast of other prominent actors, including Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe. So it doesn’t seem as if Pattinson has a more minor role in the game either.

One of the reasons Sony chose to pull out of supporting Physint was because of budget concerns. Kojima loves bringing in big name actors for his games and you have to imagine Skarsgård doesn’t come cheap.

‘I’m delighted to confirm the lead role for Physint will be Bill Skarsgård, said Kojima. ‘We are both long-time fans of each other’s work, and we’ve decided to embark on this new adventure together.

‘The costume fittings, scans, and camera tests we conducted with Bill and Charlee earlier this year gave me tremendous confidence in the direction of the project.’

This was the biggest announcement to come out of Xbox’s showcase at the Tokyo Game Show, which mostly consisted of announcements and updates for third party games, like Crazy Taxi and Persona 4 Revival.

However, there was also a trailer for a new Fallout 76 update, as well as a trailer for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s campaign – which has its own celebrity star in the form of Mads Mikkelsen as the villain (coincidentally, Mikkelsen was a major antagonist in Kojima’s Death Stranding).
