Adam Karmaâs dreamy rent-controlled loft is the latest real estate gem to capture fansâ attention on “And Just Like That….” While “Sex and the City” and its reboot have always celebrated love, friendship, and high fashion, real estate has long played a starring role, too. Think Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic closet in that classic New York Brownstone, or her dreamworthy Gramercy Park West home. Now, Adamâs West Village apartment joins the ranksâand yes, itâs very real.
Adam Karmaâs Apartment Is a Real-Life Loft in a Historic NYC Building
In season 3, episode 10 of “And Just Like Thatâ¦,” viewers were introduced to Adam Karmaâs stunning homeâcomplete with panoramic city views, a breezy artistic vibe, and a shockingly affordable rent of $900 per month. As it turns out, the space wasnât built on a soundstage. According to the showâs official Instagram, the scenes were filmed at a real, vacant unit inside Westbeth Artists’ Housing, a historic artist complex in Manhattanâs Far West Village.
The building spans an entire city block and is bounded by West Street, Bethune Street, Washington Street, and Bank Street. The neighborhood itself is known for its eclectic charm, waterfront proximity, and creative energy. Adamâs unit, with its high ceilings and massive windows, offered a rare view into authentic New York loft living.
The Artist Colony Is RealâAnd Legendary
In the show, Adam tells Seema Patel that his mother, a potter, was offered a spot in the artist colony decades ago and that he inherited the rent-controlled apartment after her passing. Though the character is fictional, the concept is based on very real history.
Westbeth Artistsâ Housing opened in 1970 as a pioneering project to convert the former Bell Telephone Laboratories into subsidized live-work spaces for artists. It was the first of its kind in the U.S., supported by the J.M. Kaplan Fund and the National Endowment for the Arts. More than 300 apartments and studios were created, offering affordable space to painters, writers, musicians, and filmmakers.
As the Series Wraps, Adam Karma’s Apartment Helps the Real Estate Legacy Live On
On August 1, “And Just Like That⦔ showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed that the series will conclude with season 3.
“‘And Just Like That…’ the ongoing storytelling of the ‘Sex and the City’ universe is coming to an end.”
“While I was writing the last episode of ‘And Just Like That…’ season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop,” he wrote. “Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12.”
The two-part finale kicks off August 7 on HBO and Max, promising emotional goodbyesâand likely a few more real estate envy moments.
While Carrie Bradshawâs closet may be iconic, Adam Karmaâs laid-back loft is a refreshing addition to the SATC real estate canon. As always, the city remains the fifth character.
