You’re not hallucinating – Peppa Pig actually went to space for the solar eclipse

For her latest adventure, Peppa Pig travelled far, far away from Peppatown to go where no pig has ever gone before – space.

Peppa joined in the fun ahead of Wednesday’s solar eclipse, during which the Moon will obscure more than 90% of the Sun between 6.17pm and 8.06pm.

It is the most significant eclipse since 1999, with millions counting down to it, purchasing eclipse glasses in their thousands and getting clued up on safety guidance from experts (no, you can’t look at it with the naked eye, and it might ruin your phone camera).

So, Peppa decided to prove that pigs really can (sort of) fly by reaching an altitude of more than 100,000 feet herself.

The beloved children’s television character’s unique mission was captured in full 4K resolution, beginning with her takeoff and ascent and culminating with her floating just above the planet’s atmosphere.

Peppa’s one-time, out-of-this-world experience was screened at the NEC’s Lakeside Cinema – home of the hands-on, walk-through experience Peppa Pig Space Adventure.

During her flight, Peppa spotted the NEC from above, as well as other landmarks across the city and wider region.

Teddy bear in hand, she was heard saying, ‘This is so much fun!’ before returning to Earth safely.

Speaking afterwards, Sarah Harvey, Deputy CEO at the NEC, said: ‘We’re thrilled to have helped Peppa Pig complete her world-first journey into space to launch a summer of adventure at Peppa Pig Space Adventure at the NEC!

‘It’s important for us to continue to inspire curiosity and creativity in the younger generation, and this was a fantastic way of proving to young explorers that no dream is too big to achieve.

‘We can’t wait to welcome more families to experience Peppa Pig Space Adventure this summer.’

Eager to inspire children to use their imagination, Peppa Pig Space Adventure features rooms with stories where little explorers can play and discover, whether it be in Evie’s nursery or the playroom.

Children can also join the fun by designing a rocket for Peppa, with a competition inviting young artists to submit their own creations.

The animated series launched in 2004 and has proven wildly popular, airing in over 180 countries, winning numerous broadcasting awards, and raking in billions with merchandise, theme parks, and video games.

But it’s not just the programme itself that gets people talking, as Peppa has become a cultural icon in her own right.

In one of the most bizarre celebrity feuds to date, she faced off against Charli XCX last month, shortly after Daddy Pig became a household name by running the London Marathon alongside the nation’s PE teacher, Joe Wicks.

The franchise was also praised by charities upon introducing a hearing loss storyline when younger brother George was revealed to be moderately deaf and in need of a hearing aid.

Ultimately, no matter what her family is doing, whether it’s gender reveals for its new piglet or riling up celebrities for ‘reinforcing stereotypes’, they certainly know how to get people talking – and why would the historic solar eclipse be an exception?
