Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake tipped as the big game at today’s Nintendo Direct

Between the 40th anniversary and next year’s movie, surely Nintendo will announce something related to The Legend Of Zelda (Nintendo)

A remake of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time is expected to be the final announcement of the next Nintendo Direct, but it’s not guaranteed.

It’s taken longer than expected but Nintendo is finally airing a full-fledged Nintendo Direct today; one that’s almost an hour long and isn’t dedicated to a single game.

Nintendo’s been harder to predict than usual this year, but hopefully this Direct will see the company flesh out its release schedule for the second half of 2026, which is currently very scarce.

There are some more concrete expectations, though, chief amongst them being the reveal of a remake of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, which is widely expected to be the centrepiece of the Direct and Nintendo’s autumn line-up.

Back in March, leaker NateTheHate claimed the remake will launch later this year and this prediction gained further legitimacy after he accurately leaked the existence of a new Star Fox game.

In a new YouTube video discussing the upcoming Direct, NateTheHate has reiterated that the remake exists, and he expects it to be the closing announcement today, especially as Nintendo is apparently positioning the remake as its big Christmas game.

These plans do often change at the last minute, though, which may be especially true in this case, as Nintendo will be upset that the news leaked and NateTheHate speculates there is a chance they could now reveal the game in a separate, dedicated Zelda Direct.

That’s certainly not impossible (Nintendo has given much smaller games, like Tomodachi Life, their own showcases) and could even be used to promote next year’s Zelda movie.

Two announcements that are guaranteed are release dates for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave and The Duskbloods, since both are still scheduled for 2026. Or at least that’s what’s hoped, as there’s been some concern that FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods may have been delayed.

NateTheHate previously claimed The Duskbloods is aiming for late 2026 and that Fire Emblem will be a summer launch, although his personal prediction is that the latter will arrive late August or early September.

NateTheHate is less confident in there being any DLC announcement for Mario Kart World or anything Mario related at all. There seems little to no chance of a new 3D Mario this year and Nintendo has already made it clear this Direct is only for games being released in 2026.

What is possible, is a range of other lower budget games, with previous rumours suggesting a new Wario Land is being planned, along with a remake of SNES game Super Metroid. The former is rumoured to be a 2027 release though, so may not feature today even if it does exist.

How to watch the June Nintendo Direct

Today’s Nintendo Direct will air at 3pm BST via the official Nintendo YouTube channel, as well as the Nintendo Today mobile app.

Nintendo hasn’t confirmed any specific games for the showcase, but it will run for 50 minutes and focus on games launching for Switch 2 and Switch 1 this year.

It will be interesting to see if Nintendo apes every other publisher and does all it can to steer clear of GTA 6’s release in November. This has resulted in an overly stuffed September, with only Atari brave enough to launch a collection of retro Barbie games the very same week as GTA 6.

Nintendo is also running one of its Treehouse: Live streams immediately afterwards, to showcase further gameplay. That will run for 95 minutes but we won’t know which games will be featured until the Direct wraps up.
