1 dead in wrong-way crash on 5 Freeway in Burbank

A person was killed early Sunday in a wrong-way crash on the northbound 5 Freeway in Burbank, authorities said.

The collision was reported around 3:45 a.m. near Alameda Avenue, when a motorist driving southbound in the northbound lanes struck several vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed one person was pronounced dead at the scene about 3:57 a.m. At least three others were transported to hospitals in unknown condition, a CHP spokesperson told KTLA.

All northbound lanes of the 5 were closed following the crash. The CHP issued a Sigalert at 4:56 a.m., warning closures would last about two hours. The alert was canceled and lanes reopened at 8:51 a.m.
