Japan is known for its low crime rate and has strict gun laws, though the country has seen several high-profile knife attacks in recent years.

In June, a man dubbed the ‘Twitter killer’ was hanged for murdering and dismembering nine people.

While in 2023, at least three people were killed in a shooting and stabbing attack in Nakano.
