18-year-old killed in Austin home among the victims in overnight violence

An 18-year-old was fatally shot and at least 10 others were injured in overnight shootings across Chicago, according to authorities.

Five teenagers were also injured in separate shootings. The violence, which started Saturday night and went into Sunday morning, adds to the five killed and dozens injured at the start of the Juneteenth holiday weekend.

The 18-year-old man, Aniyhas Jackson, was inside an Austin home in the 4800 block of West Quincy Street when he was shot in the armpit around 10 p.m. Saturday, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested at the home and a gun was recovered, according to police.

Later that night, police were dispersing a large crowd in North Lawndale around 11:30 p.m. when multiple shots rang out. A 19-year-old man in the crowd approached officers in the 1400 block of South Christiana Avenue and said he was shot. The man, shot in the arm and groin, was taken to Mount Sinai in serious condition, according to police.

A 19-year-old woman was also shot and took herself to Mount Sinai suffering from a gunshot wound to the buttocks. An 18-year-old woman, also shot in the buttocks, was found at the scene and taken to Mount Sinai. Both women are in stable condition.

No one has been arrested, according to police.
