An 18-year-old was fatally shot and at least 10 others were injured in overnight shootings across Chicago, according to authorities.
Five teenagers were also injured in separate shootings. The violence, which started Saturday night and went into Sunday morning, adds to the five killed and dozens injured at the start of the Juneteenth holiday weekend.
The 18-year-old man, Aniyhas Jackson, was inside an Austin home in the 4800 block of West Quincy Street when he was shot in the armpit around 10 p.m. Saturday, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested at the home and a gun was recovered, according to police.
Later that night, police were dispersing a large crowd in North Lawndale around 11:30 p.m. when multiple shots rang out. A 19-year-old man in the crowd approached officers in the 1400 block of South Christiana Avenue and said he was shot. The man, shot in the arm and groin, was taken to Mount Sinai in serious condition, according to police.
A 19-year-old woman was also shot and took herself to Mount Sinai suffering from a gunshot wound to the buttocks. An 18-year-old woman, also shot in the buttocks, was found at the scene and taken to Mount Sinai. Both women are in stable condition.
No one has been arrested, according to police.
The other shootings police reported:
- A 15-year-old boy was shot during an argument with another person around 6 p.m. Saturday outside a Grand Boulevard business in the 700 block of East 47th Street. The boy was taken in fair condition to Comers Children’s Hospital.
- About an hour later, a 49-year-old man was shot in the Armour Square neighborhood in the 200 block of West Pershing Road. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.
- A 31-year-old man was in stable condition after he was shot in the torso around 9 p.m. in the 10800 block of South Union Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood.
- Just after midnight Sunday, a 40-year-old man was dropped off at University of Chicago suffering from a gunshot to his torso. He was in critical condition.
- A 36-year-old woman was at a gathering in West Garfield Park when someone in a gray sedan shot her twice in the leg at around 2 a.m. in the 800 block of South Kilbourn Avenue. She was in stable condition at Mount Sinai.
- A 17-year-old boy was in a car at around 4 a.m. in Brighton Park when two people on a motorbike pulled up alongside the car and opened fire in the 4700 block of South Rockwell Street. The boy was shot in the chest and taken to University of Chicago in critical condition.
- At around 5:30 a.m., a 22-year-old woman was shot while inside a West Pullman home in the 11600 block of South Elizabeth Street. The gunman fired from outside the home. She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition.
