The Weld County Coroner’s Office has identified the man shot and killed Wednesday afternoon by Greeley police near North Colorado Medical Center as 18-year-old Aden Alcide Jeannoutot.
The shooting happened at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, when a police officer pulled over a vehicle for a traffic stop near 16th Avenue and 21st Street, according to a 19th Judicial District news release.
The woman driving got out of the vehicle, but Jeannoutot, who officers knew to have a felony arrest warrant, remained in the passenger seat, the release states.
An officer told him to get out of the vehicle, but he instead reached toward a bag in his lap. The officer shot Jeannoutot after he ignored additional commands, officials said Wednesday night.
The shooting is under investigation by the Weld County Critical Incident Response Team, which investigates incidents in which an officer uses or attempts to use deadly force while on duty, using members of various Weld County law enforcement agencies. The district attorney then reviews the team’s findings to determine whether to clear the officer of charges or refer the shooting to a grand jury.
