2 cops among 4 hurt in multi-vehicle Gage Park crash

Four people were injured, two seriously, when a car slammed into a police car which then hit a semi early Thursday in Gage Park on the Southwest Side.

Around 12:10 a.m., the officers were in a marked patrol vehicle going west in the 2700 block of West 51st Street when they were rear-ended by a blue sedan going in the same direction, Chicago police said.

The collision caused the patrol vehicle to spin and strike the back of a semi that was also headed west, police said.

One officer suffered injuries to their face and was hospitalized in fair condition, officials said. The other officer suffered a head injury and was taken to an area hospital in good condition.

The 22-year-old woman driving the sedan was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with trauma to her body and was listed in serious condition, authorities said. She was placed in custody and charges were pending.

A man who was a passenger in the sedan suffered an injury to his abdomen and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the semi wasn’t injured and declined medical attention, officials said.
