A 56-year-old woman was wounded after being shot in an alley in Chatham late Thursday, police said.
At about 8:12 p.m., police said the woman was walking in an alley in the 8100 block of South Maryland Avenue when she reportedly heard a verbal altercation and saw a 23-year-old woman run to the area from a nearby apartment complex, being pursued by a man. The man then pulled a gun and fired several shots at the woman.
One of the rounds hit the 56-year-old woman in the leg. The 23-year-old woman sustained a graze wound to her legs, police said.
The injured 56-year-old woman was treated at the scene before being transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. The other woman refused treatment and was listed in good condition.
Area 2 detectives are investigating.
