2026 Election Results: In CA-27, D-George Whitesides faces 3 challengers

Santa Clarita Councilmember Jason Gibbs, a Republican, was ahead of three other candidates, including Democratic incumbent George Whitesides, in Tuesday’s primary election, based on partial returns released by the Los Angeles County registrar’s office shortly after 9:15 p.m. on election night.

The other candidates in the race are Caleb Norwood, a college student, and Roberto Ramos, a retired military analyst. Both are Democrats.

California’s 27th Congressional District represents Lancaster, Palmdale and Santa Clarita in the Antelope and Santa Clarita valleys.

Because of redistricting, it lost Acton and Quartz Hill. At the same time, the district dropped further south into the San Fernando Valley, picking up neighborhoods of Reseda and Lake Balboa.

Whitesides, a Democrat who flipped the district in 2024, is hoping for a second term in a northern L.A. County district that only became bluer after the mid-cycle redistricting that California voters approved last year.

Democrats have a nearly 15 percentage point voter registration advantage over Republicans under the new map, and the nonpartisan Cook Political Report now considers CA-27 a solidly Democratic district.

Just two years ago, CA-27 was one of the most competitive House races in the nation, and even before that, voters here had a history of going back and forth between electing a Democrat or a Republican.

The top two vote-getters in the primary election, regardless of party affiliation, will face off in the November general election.

Vote tallies will be updated throughout the night and in the coming days as more ballots are counted, so check back periodically for the latest information.
