A 5-year-old girl was among two people burned early Monday in a residential fire in Woodlawn on the South Side.
The fire broke out around 1 a.m. in the 6400 block of South Maryland Avenue injuring the girl and a woman who suffered burns to their bodies and smoke inhalation, Chicago police said.
The girl was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital and the woman to the University of Chicago Medical Center where they were in serious condition, officials said. Their injuries weren’t believed to be life-threatening.
The “small” fire started in the bedroom but the cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known, Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Larry Langford said.
No further injuries were reported.
