A monument honoring the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg was unveiled in Van Nuys

Los Angeles City Councilmember Imelda Padilla hosted the unveiling of the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Monument at the Van Nuys Civic Center on Thursday Nov. 6. In a prepared statement Padilla said the monument, brought to the city by Hulu’s “Made by Her: Monuments” initiative, was in honor of Ginsburg’s legacy of “unwavering dedication to equality and shaping American law. We honor that legacy today by creating a space that is more than just a monument—it is a vital space for our residents to gather, connect, and be inspired.”

The “Made by Her: Monuments” initiative is a campaign in the U.S. to erect public monuments honoring historic women. The first three statues were dedicated to Coretta Scott King in Atlanta, Marjory Stoneman Douglas in Miami, and now Ruth Bader Ginsburg in Los Angeles.
Ginsburg was nominated to the court by President Bill Clinton in 1993 and served until her death in 2020. She was the second woman to serve on the Supreme Court. “This is a permanent, beautiful investment in the heart of Van Nuys, and I look forward to our community enjoying this landmark for generations to come,” Padilla said.
