A newborn baby girl was found stuffed inside a toilet tank in Thailand after a housekeeper heard her cries.
The cleaner was working on the third floor of an office building in Bangkok on November 15 when she made the harrowing discovery.
After lifting the toilet lid, she found the baby girl stuffed in the cistern, which was half-filled with water.
It’s believed the newborn girl was placed there shortly after birth.
The baby was unclothed, and her hands had gone pale and wrinkled from soaking in the water.
Police rushed to the scene in the Lat Krabang district at around 11 am local time after receiving a report.
The girl was taken to the Sirindhorn Hospital for a check-up, where doctors found she weighed six pounds and was unharmed.
Police Captain Kritsada Saikhong said: ‘The baby girl was under a day old. She was a newborn, but there was no sign of the mother.
‘We will proceed with the investigation to find who left the baby girl in the toilet. Officers are checking CCTV cameras to establish who was in the building and who used the bathroom.’
The parents may be prosecuted for abandonment under Thai Penal Code Section 306, which carries a penalty of up to three years in prison, a fine of up to £140 GBP, or both.
In 2013, a mum flushed her baby boy down the toilet and watched as rescue workers got him out of the pipe in eastern China.
State-run media said the woman only admitted being the baby’s mother after questioning from police, with the baby’s toys and blood-stained toilet paper later found in her apartment.
The newborn, known as Baby No. 59 based on its incubator number in the hospital, emerged miraculously unscathed from the incident, with only a few cuts to his head and limbs and a low heart rate to show for his ordeal.
