Several people were injured after a Boeing jet collapsed on the runway.

The nose landing gear of a Lufthansa Boeing 787 Dreamliner buckled around 12.45pm yesterday at Frankfurt Airport, Germany.

The aircraft was being fuelled and stocked up ahead of a 1.50pm flight to Los Angeles, California.

The 787-9 aircraft, which had only been in operation for six months, collapsed while attached to the jetway at Terminal 1.

Footage shared by aviation tracker FlightRadar24 shows one person in a hi-vis vest exiting the luggage bay door, narrowly avoiding being crushed.

Passengers had not yet boarded the plane but 13 crew and ground staff were on board at the time, the German airline Lufthansa said.

Two workers were injured and taken to hospital. The airline did not elaborate on how many people were injured or the nature of their injuries.

The cause of the failure remains unknown.

Flight LH450 was cancelled and is scheduled to take off today at 1.50pm, according to aviation tracker FlightRadar24.

Airport operator Fraport said the incident did not impact air traffic.

Photographs taken at the scene show the Dreamliner, nicknamed ‘Herne’, resting on its nose section.

Visible damage can be seen around the forward fuselage – the main body of the plane – and nose gear bay.

The landing gear doors also appear to be bent outwards, while a baggage handling vehicle appears to be wedged under the aircraft.

Emergency services and technicians were called to the site, German news outlet Hessenschau reported.

Lufthansa said: ‘While parked, the aircraft’s nose landing gear unexpectedly collapsed.

‘At the time of the incident, crew and ground staff were on board. Passengers had not yet boarded.

‘Several employees were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment.’

Lufthansa has been approached for comment.
